From Elephant-Shaped Pool to Backyard Dreamscape in Katy, TX
At Hummingbird Pools, one of our greatest joys is transforming outdated or awkward spaces into modern, family-friendly retreats. That was exactly the case at Hampton Oaks Circle in Katy, where we were referred by another happy customer in the neighborhood. The homeowners, who have a large extended family, wanted a backyard where everyone could gather, relax, and enjoy—so we got to work creating a fully reimagined space tailored to their lifestyle.
The Challenge
The original pool design was—quite literally—shaped like an elephant. While unique, it didn’t match the homeowners’ vision for a sleek, updated space. With such a large-scale project, coordinating contractors and schedules was essential to ensure everything stayed on track.
Our Solution
We started by completely removing the original pool and reshaping it into a more modern, functional layout. From there, we built a spacious 28’x20’ outdoor living area featuring a custom fireplace, oversized island, and a full outdoor kitchen—perfect for hosting big family gatherings.
To enhance the comfort and aesthetic of the space, we added a large tanning ledge, matched the finishes to complement their red brick home, and incorporated a black star gravel seating area with a natural gas firepit. We even removed a built-on section of the house to open up the backyard and make way for the new design.
The Result
The finished project blends style, function, and comfort—creating a modern backyard oasis built for both relaxing and entertaining. It’s a beautiful example of how thoughtful design and craftsmanship can completely transform a space.
